T54.Fotografía y poesía. Lenguaje y experimentación
Llorenç Raich
 8 HORAS, 22/07 SÁBADO

2023_makeAzine_edited.jpg
Llorenç Raich_001_edited.jpg
pluracidades2-07.jpg

T15. Let’s Make an Experimental Collective Fanzine!
Stéphanie Probst
 4 HOURS, 20/07 THURSDAY

In this workshop, you will see different techniques to make an artist's book, in the way of a fanzine. Participants will create a collective edition of their work, and find a way to make a story together. What is a zine or artist's book? You will see theory and examples, binding and folding techniques. How to think about the design? What format, and what type of printing? How to combine the work of everybody? How to make the works interact in the layout? Selection, layout, frames, and size will be discussed. A collective artbook/zine project will emerge, with a unique and collective message, its own rhythm, its own story, to be spread in the world.

+ Participants have to bring their own pictures: electronic (jpg, pdf, by mail or USB key) or physical (paper). You need at least 8-16 pictures to play with. Physical pictures can be scanned, cut out, pasted, used as unique covers. They can also bring papers, thread, stickers to personalize the project. If possible, bring a laptop and a USB key. A layout program will be necessary (Indesign or any other), otherwise, please download a free software: Scribus https://framalibre.org/content/scribus. Working analogically is possible, but takes way more time.

T30. Let’s Make your Artist Zine! Show your Work as a Portable Gallery Object
Stéphanie Probst
 8 HOURS,  21/07  FRIDAY & 22/07 SATURDAY

In this workshop, you will see different techniques to make an artist's book, in the way of a fanzine. Each participant will create one with their own work. What is a zine or artist's book? You will see theory and examples, binding and folding techniques. How to think about the design? What format, and what type of printing? A magazine will be made individually or in a small group and result in a book project.  Layout software will be used, but it's also ok to work manually. At the end of the workshop, we will have a curatorial object to carry the proposed images, with a sense of storytelling, concept, rhythm and message.

+ Participants have to bring their own pictures: electronic (jpg, pdf by mail or USB key) or physical (paper). You need at least 8-16 pictures to play with. T09. Trapping Chance: Strategies to Allow the Unexpected
Guilherme Maranhão
 4 HOURS, 19/07 WEDNESDAY.

Encounters, arrangements and unique forms of the world that only photography can see. Through photo games, participants will have the opportunity to discuss the ways in which photography can be a trap for chance. During the first part of the workshop there will be a presentation about the use of chance in the works of many artists. We want to explore what has been done and also think about how certain things can be welcomed into our work. We will discuss how we can provide a fertile space for chance to appear. This will introduce the concept of a photo game. We will think about ideas of photo games that we can do ourselves in our own photos will all kinds of equipment and techniques. Onto the second part we will create a photo game together in the darkroom. Starting with photo paper, we will partially fog it and then try to use it to make contact prints of large format negatives. Again with simple tools, we can explore something we normally avoid doing, just to see how one image interacts with the other.

+ Participants should bring their own camera.

T12. Creating Cameras from Scanners
Guilherme Maranhão
 8 HOURS, 20/07 THURSDAY.

You are able to make a digital camera by taking apart and recombining pieces from a flatbed scanner. We will start with a simple scanner and check out how it works, we will determine the steps it takes to do what it does and start trying to control it in a bricoleur mode. During the workshop we will recombine it into a camera using simple tools, no special tools, software or knowledge are required. We will see how this camera works and also what kind of images you can make with it. Then we will talk about software and the basic steps to capture images with it, along with the 3 main types of situations you can use this contraption in. We can talk about improvements one can make to this camera. Once it is working, you will have the chance to use this camera you just built. You can dance with it and with the help of your movement, create a self-portrait.

Horizontal Portfolio Review
HRP1, HRP3, HRP5
Stig Marlon Weston + Virginia Dal Magro + Dale Rio

At this workshop, you will get feedback and discuss your portfolio in a way that will help develop your own project further and understand more of how curators and jurors think. You will learn how to present your work better so you can get the attention of an audience or gallerist or write statements and applications more clearly. During the workshop, you will get to try out being «on both sides of the table», as you not only present your portfolio, but also get to practice as a reviewer giving feedback to other photographers and be a jury member deciding on who to award an exhibition opportunity. The workshop will be lead by Stig Marlon Weston from CYAN studio (NO) and you will also get feedback on your work from Dale Rio of The Halide Project (US) and Virgina Dal Magro from SpazioSERRA (IT), who will all use this opportunity to look for new work to show in their galleries.

+ The participants need to bring:

- A memory stick with a digital portfolio of around 20 images you want to show and talk about. All images should be in one folder and numbered in the order you want to present them.

- A small physical portfolio of 5-15 prints, to handle and show at the test review.

-1 page printout of 1-3 test prints of your portfolio´s main images.

-1 page printout of a short text of a maximum of 1.000 characters, presenting yourself and your portfolio photo project. These printouts of photos and text will be taped to the wall and used as an example to discuss during the jury meeting.

Visionado Horizontal de Portafolios
HRP2, HRP4
