T17. Toning Cyanotypes with Botanicals

In this workshop we will focus on toning cyanotypes with botanicals. I will not go into the cyanotype process itself. However, you will get a handout (in English) with all the information need to make successful cyanotypes, should you be new to the process, as well as detailed information on toning. You will work with various cyanotypes on different papers I will bring, and tone them with the botanical material I will provide. The goal is to experiment with as many toners as possible so that you get familiar with toning and get an insight into the boundless possibilities that toning with botanicals offers. I will briefly outline the principles of toning and why and how it Works. We will bleach some cyanotypes to various degrees before we start our toning experiments.
+ Participants are invited to bring some of your own cyanotypes and botanical material to experiment with like leaves from trees or evergreen plants or kitchen herbs (50 g of each plant they bring).
T32.Cyano-chemigrams

We will explore the fun possibilities to alter cyanotypes by deploying the chemistry used in the process like citric acid developer, sodium carbonate bleach and toners. We will create galaxies, foam landscapes and abstract patterns in different colors. The chemicals can for example be sprayed on or rolled on, before and after exposure. This workshop is meant to inspired you to further explore this non-toxic process to print chemigrams.
T50. Duotone Cyanotypes

4 HOURS, 22/07 SATURDAY
You will learn how to print a duotone image with a yellow and a blue layer. I will briefly outline the principles of the duotone cyanotype process. However, you will get a handout (in English) with detailed information on the entire process including calibrating and printing negatives). We will print the first yellow layer and bleach it in sodium carbonate and dry the layer. Then we will print the blue layer on top.
+ You should be familiar with the cyanotype process, since I will not go into the cyanotype process itself. You must send me one colour photograph at least two weeks before the workshop (Deadline 7th of July) so that I can print the negatives. The most suitable images for this process are images that contain mainly blue and yellow colours.
T04. Clorotipia y procesos botánicos

En este taller se trabajará la técnica de la clorotipia en el cual se realizará el proceso, se seleccionará el herbario de hojas óptimas, se verán trucos, modo de conservación, hojas esqueleto y otras técnicas. Se realizará una práctica en la cual se prepararán las hojas y se expondrán al sol.
+ Les participantes deben traer acetatos impresos con las fotografías seleccionadas, una tabla con un cristal y pinzas de presión
T20. Chlorophyll Prints and Botanical Processes

4 HOURS, 20/07 THURSDAY.
In this workshop, the technique of chlorotyping will be worked on, in which the process will be carried out, the herbarium of optimal leaves will be selected, conservation mode, skeleton leaves and other techniques will be seen. There will be a practice in which the leaves will be prepared and exposed to the sun.
+ Participants must bring printed acetates with their selected photographs and a board with glass and tweezers.
T58. Chlorophyll & Eco Prints

In this workshop you will see the technique of chlorotyping in which the process will be carried out, the herbarium of optimal leaves for the technique will be selected, tricks, conservation mode, skeleton leaves and other techniques will be seen. There will be a practice in which the leaves will be prepared and exposed to the sun. EcoPrinting with eucalyptus leaves will look on paper and on fabrics.
+ Participants must bring printed acetates with their selected photographs and a board with glass and tweezers.
T44. Exploring Soil Chromatography, Cyanosoil and Lumen Prints

4 HOURS, 21/07 FRIDAY
In this workshop, participants will experiment with soil, light and photosensitive materials to create abstract images. They will discover soil chromatography, a technique initially used in agronomy, to create a photographic record of the components held within each soil sample. Soil chromatography is a particularly interesting process when you want to go beyond landscape photography and work with the land. It combines scientific techniques with photographic processes instauring a dialogue between process and materials. Participants will also have the opportunity to experiment with other cameraless techniques such as cyanotype and lumen print, mixing those techniques with soil to create images about and with the land. Throughout the workshop, we will discuss how abstract photography about the environment can be made using collected material and also how the process can be as important and meaningful as the result.
+ For the workshop, participants are invited to bring: One jar filled up with soil (shouldn’t be too sandy or have too many rocks / pebbles inside). Negatives on transparent paper related to the place they collected the soil sample from. If they can’t bring negatives, they can send me an email (cendre@mailo.com) with their photographs and I’ll print negatives out of their pictures (Max 4 pictures / person).
T59. Collaborative Cyanotype Short Video

8 HOURS, 22/07 SATURDAY
In this workshop, we will be using the cyanotype process – a historical photographic printing technique – to create a short film that reflects on our relationship with the natural world. We invite you to bring short videos (no longer than 5 seconds in length) that capture your own personal experiences with the land. These could be footage of your favorite hiking trails, your backyard garden, or even just moments of connection with nature that you've captured on your phone. In addition to the video clips, we invite you to bring soil samples and any organic material collected in the environment you’ve filmed. During the workshop, we will work together to select and edit the videos into a cohesive narrative, and then use the cyanotype process to print the final film. Soil samples and organic matter will be used during the making of the cyanotypes to directly involve the ecosystems in the images. This workshop is a chance for us to come together as a community and share our diverse perspectives on the natural world. We hope you will join us in this creative and meaningful exploration!
+ For the workshop, participants are invited to bring: max 4 short video clips (max 5 seconds) shot in a specific environment, landscape format. One jar filled up with soil (from the environment where the videos were shot). It shouldn’t be too sandy or have too many rocks / pebbles inside. If you can, your own computer for the session during the morning. Negatives on transparent paper related to the place they collected the soil sample from. If they can’t bring negatives, they can send me an email (cendre@mailo.com) with their photographs and I’ll print negatives out of their pictures (Max 4 pictures / person). Any other organic material from the specific environment: dried plants, mushrooms, lichens.
T10. Introduction to Gum Arabic Print

4 HOURS, 19/07 WEDNESDAY
This workshop is about the gum arabic technique, which is a printing technique using shellac and gum arabic. The technique will be developed and possible errors or problems that may appear in the process will be discussed.
+ Participants have to bring their own printed mirrored laser transparency photocopies in B/W. Otherwise they can send jpg files one month before the workshop in B/W well contrasted. Also they have to bring supports where they want to print on (paper, wood, canvas, anything flat...)
